1. Scarborough State Beach

Scarborough State Beach with its newly renovated pavilion and expanded beach area along with renovations to the Scarborough South Complex, offers a wide range of beach related activities. 

Saltwater bathing with lifeguards on duty from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm will continue to be Scarborough’s biggest attraction along with picnicking, an observation tower with scenic views and boardwalk. People of all ages will find activities of interest from sun bathing on Scarborough’s sandy beach, and people watching on its boardwalk to picnicking under shaded shelters, and saltwater bathing in one of Rhode Island’s most popular spots.

2. Water Sports, Outdoor Fun & Fishing

When you come to RI, you’ll find a wide variety of outdoor adventure in a beautiful and varied natural landscape.

 Rhode Island offers many parks and recreational opportunities. Hundreds of rivers, streams, ponds, lakes and gorgeous coastline offer kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, boating, rowing, sailing, and swimming, jet skiing, windsurfing and more. 

Saltwater fishing is a leading sport in RI, with Giant Blue Fin Tuna, Marlin and Swordfish. Striped bass is a local favorite. The Ocean State offers in-shore surf and rock casting, bottom fishing in protected bay and shoreline areas, in addition to exciting off-shore game fishing.

4. Cliff Walk

Newport, RI’s Cliff Walk combines ocean views, mansions, and a rocky shore line into a 3.5 mile Federally listed Recreational Walk. 

The Cliff Walk is world famous as a free public access walk that combines the natural beauty of the shoreline with the architectural history of Newport’s gilded age. Wildflowers, birds, geology … all add to this delightful walk.

As the summertime home of acclaimed golf course architect Donald Ross, Rhode Island is home to some of the finest golf courses in New England.

At Rail Explorers safety is our first priority, so all tours have a trained guide at the front and in the last rail explorer. Tours depart on a set schedule, but all riders are spread out, with up to 200ft between you and those in front and behind.
